Target Group

This course is designed to draw candidates' of outstanding ability from the PGDEM and place them in a learning environment in which they could further develop their potential as educational managers and leaders.

Objectives

The objectives of the M.Sc course are as follows:

• To provide high level qualifications for the senior managers in the education system and to equip them with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to initiate appropriate changes in their role performance.
• To develop greater awareness of the relevance and potential contribution of applied research to the understanding of management practices in the education system.

Eligibility

The M.Sc Course is linked to the Post Graduate Diploma in Education Management (PGDEM). This course is designed to draw candidates' of outstanding ability from the PGDEM and place them in a learning environment in which they could further develop their potential as educational managers and leaders.

Programme Structure

The M.Sc candidates have to produce a dissertation based on an applied research consisting of approximately 20,000 - 25,000 words. The dissertation is essentially and independent piece of work undertaken by the candidates at their working places.

This dissertation has to be carried out over a period of 24 months. Initially there will be a taught component on research methodology of 72 hours extending over 3 months. Subsequently over the next three months the candidates have to present their research proposal to a research committee. The candidates who fail to satisfy the standards set by the research committee will have to revise their proposals in the light of the comments and suggestions arising at the presentation/feedback sessions. The candidates will have further 18 months to complete their dissertation.
