Target Group

The Bachelor of Education Degree in Engineering Technology Education (Honours) programme has been designed for the professional development of teachers who are teaching the subject of Engineering Technology at present, with a Diploma in Engineering or a Diploma in Teaching as their qualification.

Objectives

The objective of the Course is thus to empower the school system with teachers who are knowledgeable, well qualified and skilled who can provide the specialized education as required for the subject as well as a general complete education to ensure wholesome citizens for the future.

Eligibility

• below 50 years of age,

and

• 1. To have obtained three passes at any stream as stipulated by the Department of Examinations for the GCE Advanced Level examination,

  and

  2. To have obtained the National Diploma in Teaching

  or

  3. the Trained Teachers' Certificate

  or

  4. an Engineering /Technology Diploma from a recognized Institute leading to a placement in the teacher service

and

• To have had continuous service from the date of first appointment as a teacher.

Programme Structure

The degree programme designed for the Engineering Technology consists of four components. The academic component will be conducted by the four Universities (University of Peradeniya, University of Jaffna, University of Ruhuna, and SLIT) and the professional, general and practical components will be conducted by the National Institute of Education.
